A second month of restrictions meant that we participated in another virtual meeting, sharing photos of our projects. Here are a a selection:
Rays 0-16.5 second hand brass Kerr Stuart bought recently, given a new Hornby chassis, some detailing, and a repaint, now named “Hope”. Also two brake vans, one a kit from James Corsi in ply with outer frame-work added on an Airfix chassis. The other is a Smallbrook Studio resin freelance kit model. The photos were taken on a small shunting layout, in the course of construction, which is 3’3″ long with a second baseboard 2’9″.
A photo of Graham’s 09 scale layout being test run now that the track is laid. This is the station/village board showing approximate positions of the proposed features. On the other board is a rocky area with a bridge crossing a stream. The rock faces have just been finished and are made of a lightweight filler, sawdust, p.v.a, acrylic paint and water mixture on a polystyrene base and coloured with acrylics.
Geoff sent in a photo of the O.16.5 WSMR (Woodbridge Scary Mountain Railway) that he was running before the shut down.
Alan provided photos of his SM32 Aldeburgh Beach boat with planking now complete. Timbering (ribs) are also almost complete and a card stand has been built to help with construction and for it to travel on when going to exhibitions. A card template of the interior fit out was then made to get the proportions correct and this in now being reconstructed in plasticard. He has also been working on some wagon loads for the layout, in the second photo is the insulated ice delivery box with advertisement sign, made of plasticard and it has many Cambrian bolt head highlights. Just started, is a 45 gallon bowser wagon to carry fuel for the boats.
Chris has continued to scratch build some more 09 scale vans plus a tank wagon using bits of an old Triang tanker.
Dave sent in a photo to remind us of the the good times by the seaside. Set in Edwardian times the layout depicts a fictitious small pier tramway with a carousel at the end. Working along the pier is a Southend Pier 1890 “Toastrack” car.
Great Eastern Models ran an A4 box file challenge, and this is Stuart’s well-detailed SM32 entry. Another little project is this cast pewter name plate he made for a friend’s G scale loco.
Stewart’s tiny Nn3 scale Celebration Cake train.
Richard has been adding scenery to his 009 layout “Staines Barn”, left: will be the entry to the station area from the Beet fields, and right: the high level working tippler.
Jeremy sent in photos of two inexpensive H0e models in the process of painting and weathering. The Bogie wagon was supplied with Kato bogies, the wheels needed changing to a 6.2mm diameter (Dundas Models), the Tank wagon was also supplied with wheels.
A (hopefully) new Group member, Richard S., has supplied some photos of his projects in 009 scale. A Baguley kit (3D print/etched brass) named “Victory” and two other un-built 3D body prints, a Ruston and a Bagnall type steam loco similar to the Yaxham Light Railway’s “Kidbrooke”. An old N gauge layout is evolving into 009 narrow gauge and he is planning to use MERG servo point motors with micro-switches. The layout will be viewed from the back of the station platform, the space behind the passing loop will become three sidings to allow the operation of an Inglenook sidings shunting puzzle.
