April 2023 Meeting

Norfolk & Suffolk Narrow Gauge Modellers

Attendance at our meeting on 1st April was a record, where 20 members came along. In fact space was getting short in the hall for all the tables/displays. This meeting followed the theme of the March meet where most members were working on models. Here are some photos from the day:-

Ray had bought along a 009 Bachmann “Alice” quarry Hunslet loco and was giving it a test run. 
Ian brought along his 16mm Mamod Loco conversion. Its been converted into a Freelance Sugar Plantation 2-4-0. Its also had some control modifications and is currently running on meths. 

Above four photos: Malcolm brought along Reverend Teddy Boston’s 4mm on 12mm track Southwold Railway. A very historical model railway that was constructed during the mid 1950s. Malcolm has kindly offered the Southwold Railway Trust to conserve the layout for display at Steamworks in Southwold.

Geoff brought along some of his O.16.5 garden railway buildings. The station building & lineside huts had been scratchbuilt using plasticard and the cottage was built from a modified kit.

Work Tables:-

Nigel has been converting a Thomas diesel body into a freelance O.16.5 diesel using a Playcraft chassis
Nigel made a tank car with a scratch-built body on a rtr chassis. A “gauge wagon” was also on show, a scratch-built body on a Tri-Ang chassis and is used to check all the clearances on layouts.
Richard has started working on a 3D printed Kerr Stuart 60hp diesel. Kindly printed by David C. Its fitted to a Kato 109 chassis that’s had dummy centre wheels added to create the 6 wheel chassis.
Also David C printed a Bellevue & Cascade HOn30 stock car which is very similar to the Chicago & North Western 3 foot stock cars. The model has had HOn3 Myner Models 4 foot Arch Bar trucks, Kadee wheels and couplings fitted
James was working on his 4mm buildings with windows now installed. He was also painting some slate walling using water based paints on an acrylic paint base coat.
Ray had also bought some 4mm Modelu quarry Hunslet loco crew. He was preparing and priming them to get them ready for painting.
Geoff B was positioning recently built buildings on his challenge layout finalising them to enable track clearances etc to be checked.
Alan F is making a SM32 scenic photo plank & scenic experimentation area to display models on. The track is made using white metal chairs, steel rail and hand cut oak sleepers. The baseboard is also handmade.

Stuart has as made more progress on his SM32 Phil Sharples Lister kit. It now has motor and electrics, fitted, chain drive and paint. (Photo: A. Fuller)
Malcolm was working on his 16mm hedgerow, making some more wire armatures by twisting it together and soldering certain sections.
Clive attended his first meet after coming along to some other group events. He was building a LR Press kit of a French Station Building for a possible diorama. He had a static HOm Railcar on display too.
Stewart started making some MKD Cottage kits and was reducing the size from HO to more TT like.
Stuart L has made some Scale Model Scenery brick walling gates. Its printed paper that glues onto a cardboard former.
Chris was working on a 7mm O9 engine shed using plasticard and 4mm Wills asbestos sheet to represent 7mm corrugated iron.
Mike was building a HO Auhagen Freight Shed kit for a HOe layout.
Bill was converting some more Triang Series 4 track for his 1:16 10 1/4″ gauge model. Certain sleepers are removed then Wooden sleepers to bring it up to size are added.
David was installing the 2nd Turntable on his challenge layout
