May 2018 Meeting & Great Eastern Day

We had two meetings quite close together this month.  On 28th April we met at Great Eastern Models in Norwich where we displayed some layouts and demonstraions in the upper room for the day, and we would like to thank the staff there for their kind hospitality.  Then four days later we had our monthly meeting at Barsham on where we again had good attendance.

Richard was displaying "Shipmeadow" (009 scale) at Great Eastern.

In the upper photo two trains pass in the station loop, a Minitrains Bohler with four-wheeled coaches belonging to the Beccles & Bungay Railway, and nearer to the camera, a green Chris Ward Fletcher Jennings contractors loco on hire to the line.

The lower photo is a B&BR 0-4-0 Bagnall wing tank rounding the curve into the station area with a passenger train.

Stuart was constructing hand made 009 track using fine scale conductor rail.

Jim was also displaying his 009 layout at the Great Eastern day.  Here is a scene at Hubbards Halt station with a short passenger train in the station loop.

Bill brought along a selection of his 1:16 scale models and worked on new track components.

Alan was building a card tube station from a down-loaded kit.

This is Chris's tiny 009 scale layout "Priory Waterworks" which can be used as a shunting puzzle.  There is a working beam engine, and also boiler fire effects inside the buildings.

Graham brought along his first attempt at Gn15 scale, a working diorama called "Longstone Maintenance Shed".  Here No.1 "Proteus" (a Smallbrook Studio kit) leaves the shed to collect coal.

It is hoped that this layout will be extended in the near future.

At our meeting on 2nd May Alex2 brought this scratch built 09 scale Heywood train.  The chassis 0f the loco is a Graham Farish "Jinty", and it runs with a Dining Car and Guards Van.

Alex2 also brought along this 009 Garrett, also scratch built, using two Minitrix 2-6-2 chassis with 4-6-2 motion attached.

Richard displayed this 009 Bachmann bogie wagon loaded with ballast as a contractors wagon.

Barry brought these Gn15 scale 3d printed Shapeways items.  A 4-wheel toastrack coach and a frosted ultra detail Bagnall steam loco, with superb details.

Geoff brought this 0-16.5 loco (under construction) operated by remote control.  It is built from an old Hornby 0-6-0 loco which has been shortened and has new machined cylinders and plasticard body.

This little freelance railcar, also under construction, is in Gn15 scale, displayed by Graham for his "Longstone" layout.

Martin brought these G scale loco's along, both scratch built on Kato 4 wheel tram chassis for a 7 1/4" gauge railway.

This massive water tower is a Broadway "0" scale item for Neville's 0n30 American layout.  It is motorised, and has sound effects.

Alex is building a layout using small laser cut modules (available from Norfolk Heath Works) in 009 scale.  Here three of them are linked and they will form a country station layout.  The Bachmann "Dolgoch" look-alike "Rheneas" is being tested with a couple of Dundas four-wheeled coaches.

Stuart has added some more hand-made track to his module including most of a right-hand turnout.

Bill has been pains-stakingly building more track components in 1:16 scale using strip wood.
